Mythos Lens Sessions:
Honoring Your Transitions
We cannot grieve or grow without safety and spaciousness.
This is an offering for both.
What Is This Work?
Grief & Right Of Passage Sessions
Grief has a way of making itself known — but in our culture of constant productivity, we’re often told to push it aside, “get over it,” and keep moving. When grief is ignored, it doesn’t disappear. It lingers, building into stagnation that can show up as emotional blocks, heaviness, and even physical pain.
This offering gives you a place to set that weight down. A space where your grief is not rushed or silenced, but witnessed and honored.
Grief takes many forms — the loss of a loved one, a beloved animal companion, the ending of a job or dream, even the slow ache of environmental loss. And just like grief, transitional periods are often silenced and rushed as well — menopause, becoming a parent, starting a new job, or simply feeling the call for something different. Taking intentional time allows you to savor the process or see it so clearly that you can rewrite the story of how it does (or does not) shape you. The story you tell yourself about this transition matters.
By giving your grief and transitions room to flow, you reclaim your ability to live alongside them instead of being stunted by them. In our session, we co-create images that help you express your truth: perhaps holding a cherished object like your grandmother’s lamp, grounding yourself in the mud, or capturing a moment of release in the woods.
What you receive is more than photographs — it’s a ritual of honoring, a safe container for expression, and a tangible reminder that your grief and transitions are real, sacred, and worthy of being seen.

Let’s Talk...
You:
Something in me is changing. I'm mourning something,a loss, a shift, a version of myself, and I want space to honor it. To mark it. To hold it gently.
Me (Kate) & Lana
We’re here to walk alongside you. Whether you’re grieving a loved one, an identity, a dream, or simply entering a new season of life, this is a chance to slow down, breathe, and be witnessed. We won’t rush you. We won't ask you to perform your pain. We’ll hold space with care, creativity, and reverence for whatever you’re carrying.
This is a ritual of reflection, reclamation, and presence.
This offering helps you digest your grief or mark a rite of passage through:
💞 A personalized grief ritual and somatic session with Lana Smithner
💞 A visual storytelling session with Kate (Mythos Lens)
Through journal prompts, meditation, and image-making, we’ll collaborate to transform your experience into something tangible, something you can return to as both evidence and anchor.
💞 Why Us?
Kate & Lana’s Collaboration
We’ve worked together on the nationwide grief and ritual project death, me, dying Tree, which includes:
Community-based mourning rituals
Free online grief resources
An in-progress documentary exploring creative grief care and death work
Our work together is rooted in the belief that mourning is powerful, and that creative ritual can help you reclaim your voice, your image, and your story.
What Stories Can We Create Together?
A barefoot shoot in the woods, letting the earth hold what you're releasing
A studio session in silence, with light, shadow, and sacred objects
A ritual moment of remembrance or celebration, surrounded by loved ones
A solo session that marks a turning point in your life with breath, movement, and imagery

About Kate
Kate is a narrative photographer and also a producer and co-collaborator on death, me, dying tree.
Grief has shaped her creative path. Working with Lana helped her hold heartache without being consumed by it. Now, she offers that spaciousness to others, using photography not just as an artform, but as a way to mark meaning, feel witnessed, and begin again.
Grief and rites of passage can only unfold in spaces where you feel safe and supported. Lana and I have each done deep personal work to become steady, intentional containers for this kind of healing, but we also know we cannot be everyone’s safe space.
